Auckland

First experiences

There we go...

Tha Backpack

Without a spring it’s summer. After two really short nights I arrived in Auckland, it’s a brand new day. The first experiences, after the two flights from the Netherlands to Hong Kong and from Hong Kong to New Zealand.

Traditional clothing (the Haiqing) at Hong Kong airport

First view on New Zealand

Entering Albert Park, uphill Auckland, crickets all around, massive winding trees, butterflies, the smell of summer.
Albert park & The Skytower

I'm now in Auckland for about 1 1/2 week and experienced the city center of Auckland.

Paint meditation;)

The suburb Chatswood, where I stayed with a family, my first WWOOF (willing workers on organic farms http://www.wwoof.co.nz/) address. I helped this family with painting, walking the dog and sometimes looking after the children.

Yes Dacota, where going for a walk!

What really surprised me is the amount of green within the city of Auckland. There are quite some parks, Albert Park, Meyers Park etc. In between the suburbs and on the shores you can find quite large patches of nature, with many indigenous species. The area of Chatswood where I stayed used to belong to an 'old' sugar factory (1880), they sold some land for building houses but a large part is covert with forest, really nice for a walk.

You leave the suburb and all of a sudden it can look like this
